A Peacock Flounder, Bothus lunatus, is a master of disguise, easily and rapidly taking on the color and mimicking the patterns of whatever surface it finds itself on. In addition to using its camouflage for defensive purposes, the Peacock Flounder is an ambush predator, lying in wait for unsuspecting prey to swim near to its mouth so it can snap them up. This image was taken at the divesite known as Rainbow Reef near Bimini in the Bahamas. Equipment: Minolta 800si in an Ikelite housing with a Sigma 50mm macro lens and dual Ikelite SS200's on Velvia film. |
