Lens Choices For Underwater Photography

and the Types of Photographs Taken With Them

A discussion of the lenses and the techniques

used to achieve various types of

underwater photographs.

Which lens to use for underwater photography depends to a large extent on the size of the area you wish to capture on film and the type of image you wish to create. While this may seem obvious, it is important to realize that, with few exceptions, we can't change lenses underwater, thus making the correct choice all the more important. Another consideration is the price of these lenses. It may not be possible for every photographer to buy all the lenses at once, requiring careful thought as to what to buy next.

One can group the various image area sizes into several distinct categories to generalize about the specific techniques amd lenses suited to each one. I will only discuss those that I use frequently and am familiar with.
